Black looks to win the Exchange, but there might be a better idea to accomplish this than the text move. [Black might want to consider playing 18...N-B7 straight away as this seems a simpler way to win the Exchange, for example; 19.QxQ RxQ 20.BxB (20.R/R-B1 NxR 21.RxN (Or 21.BxB KxB 22.RxN ) 21...BxB 22.BxP+ K-R2 ) 20...KxB 21.K-N1 R-B4 22.R/R-B1 NxR 23.RxN (23.RxP+ K-R3 doesn't make things better for White.) 23...P-B3 Black's position is solid and he is up the Exchange, the ending should be a fairly easy win.]

19.BxQ N-B7 20.R/K-B1 NxR 21.BxQP+ K-R2 22.RxP RxN+ 23.K-N2 R-Q8 24.BxNP BxB+ 25.RxB R-K1 26.K-B2 K-N1
Black has a very good position and he seeks to break the pin. [Bringing the knight out of the corner immediately with 26...N-B7 adds more fuel to white's attack. White can win the pawn on QR7 but his pawn on K2 will be a gonner and his king will be brought into the open. 27.BxP R-Q7 28.B-B5 R/KxP+ 29.K-B3 (29.K-B1 R-K8# ) 29...N-K8+ 30.K-N4 RxNP is hopeless for White.]

27.R-QB7 B-Q5 28.BxB RxB 29.R-B1 R-Q7 30.RxN R/KxP+
Black's choice of plan in this game is not wrong, the previous notes are just to point out some options. It's nice to have so many options when you have the advantage.

31.K-B3 RxNP 32.P-KR4 RxP 33.RxR RxR 34.P-N4 R-R7 35.K-N3 RxP
All roads lead to Rome. This move pulls the white king out of the 'box' and the Black QRP easily promotes. [The 'box' referred to is when you have an unopposed passed pawn, you draw a box from where it sits (or, if on the original square, the square in front of it) and run a diagonal down to the last rank, then from that square draw the imaginary line vertically to the original square rank. In this case, the box will have starting point of ...QR6, the diagonal goes to ...KN8, the verticle line goes to ...KN3 and the promotion square is ...QR8 -- if we use these four points and draw a box, the rule is that if the opposing king is outside of this box the pawn will promote. In the current position the king is inside the box, BUT he must leave the box to capture the rook.]

Resignation is the only alternative.

36...P-R4 37.K-N5
This attacks the pawn, but it does not bring the king into the 'box', Black can simply defend the pawn without fear.

37...K-N2 38.K-B4 P-R5 39.P-N5 P-R6 40.K-K5 P-R7 41.K-K6 (Q) 42.K-K7 Q-K4+ 43.K-Q7 QxP
Strictly speaking, bringing the king in closer to the enemy king is the proper technique.
